The school has inspired many students to go on and make a success of their lives. Here we share a few of their stories.

  • Sandile Banjwa, Rainbow Alumni, Businessman and Computer Teacher

I, Sandile Banjwa, am one of the first alumni to have passed through the Rainbow School and have a degree in Psychology and an Honors in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR&VR).

The Rainbow School played a tremendous role in my life in terms of career direction and leadership skills.

I am super excited to give back by teaching Digital Skills and Computer Literacy training to the young after school learners at the JL Zwane Rainbow School and I am proud of the work that we are doing.

  • A Story from a Mother

At a recent parents meeting one mother stood up and said she was so grateful for her daughter being in the program because:

It keeps her occupied in the afternoons and away from the drug dealers and possible prostitution.

It gave her a meal which helped her save money at home.

It helped her daughter pass her school grade whereas she as her mother did not have the education to do so.

But above all, this it took her child on outings to places like parliament which she would never be able to afford to do

Another student graduated junior school at the top of her class despite both parents being unemployed and in ill health and the family on food benefits. She claims her success and confidence was all thanks to the Computer Course she did at the Rainbow school. Her ambition is to train as a Doctor.

  • Bheki Kunene, Forbes Young Entrepreneur

Bheki Kunene a 34-year-old from Guguletu, now on the FORBES 30-Under-30 list, tells his story in his own words:

I was introduced to the JL Zwane centre & homework school when I was 13 and working with them transformed my life. My creative problem-solving skills were developed and I found a greater understanding to make better life decisions. I would say the centre deconstructed my beliefs that growing up in the township meant I had less of a chance of being successful in life.

I was being exposed to role models and mentors outside of what I had known and I genuinely believed I too could be a success in life.

At 27 years of age Bheki had received the "Business Man of the Year Award" ‘Best Young Enterprise Award” and made it onto the “FORBES 30-Under-30 List.”
